The Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery has been raising trout since 1966 and is operated by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Located just below Greers Ferry Dam, the hatchery raises rainbow trout and brook trout that are stocked into cold-water tailwaters throughout Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.
Many people don't realize that before Greers Ferry Dam was built, the Little Red River wasn't known for trout fishing.
When the dam was completed, cold water released from the bottom of Greers Ferry Lake created ideal habitat for trout. To help establish and maintain these fisheries, the Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery was built to raise healthy trout that could be stocked into rivers like the Little Red River.
